Fine Arts Department teacher Isaac Derkach received the 2024 Alumni Association Teacher Grant for the purchase of two sewing machines and sewing tool kits.
In his application for funding, Derkach said, "The funds will be used to establish a dedicated sewing and costume construction area of our costume shop."
Sewing costumes on-site will increase students opportunities to learn a skill that otherwise they might not have had the opportunity to practice, according to Kay Rankin, who coordinates the Teacher Grant Program for the Aumni Association.
Teacher grants are provided through an application process administered through the school by the Alumni Association. The grants are intended to give Muncie Central teachers funding to purchase items not generally available through school resources.
Since the grant program's inception. The Alumni Association has awarded more than $40,000. Items purchased through grants remain the property of Muncie Central.
