Alumni Association awards teacher grants for 2021-22

Physical education, science and language arts students will benefit as a result of three of their teachers applying for 2021-22 Alumni Association teacher grants.


P.E. teacher Matt Miller will receive $1,230 for gender specific barbells. Science teacher Marnell Bishop will receive $320 for double-sided magnetic whiteboards. Language arts teacher Melissa Zimmerman will receive $450 to apply toward field trip expenses to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.


As of 2022, the Alumni Association has awarded more than $37,000 to nearly 80 teachers. Grants awarded have ranged from $97 to $1,345.


Harriet Tubman was born into slavery but escaped. In turn, she helped at least 70 enslaved people gain freedom via safe houses, which were part of the Underground Railroad. (Photo of Tubman from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center's website)
