The 2026 ViVA Organizational Award was presented to the Muncie Central High School Alumni Association on April 14. The award is sponsored by the Muncie Rotary Club and the Muncie Sunrise Rotary Club.

Since 1995, the Muncie Central Alumni Association has served as a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Muncie’s high school through philanthropic and historical preservation. The association has awarded more than $76,000 in scholarships to seniors and nearly $39,000 in teacher grants, while funding diverse campus needs, ranging from student assistance to laundry facilities to the restoration of the school’s Abraham Lincoln statue.

Beyond financial aid, the board maintains a public Memorabilia Room to preserve the school’s legacy and to foster a positive, cooperative presence that bridges the gap between distinguished alumni and the current student body.

Additionally, the prestigious Edmund F. Ball Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Linda Gregory, a 1962 graduate of Muncie Central and a 2017 Muncie Central distinguished alumna. She was honored for her continuous service in the Muncie community and for the betterment of those around her. Gregory’s legacy serves as a testament to the power of individual commitment.

“The ViVA Awards luncheon was a poignant reminder of the extraordinary generosity and compassion that define Delaware County’s proud volunteer heritage,” said Rotarian Brad Polk, co-chairman of the event and vice president of the Muncie Central High School Alumni Association. “As we celebrate these remarkable individuals and organizations, we are reminded that it is through collective action and shared values that we truly make a difference in the lives of others.”

Receiving the Muncie Central Alumni Association ViVA award were Steve Cartwright, a 1966 graduate and president of the Alumuni Association (second from left), and Charlotte Shepperd, a 1964 graduate and a founder of the Alumni Association and Alumni Association secretary emerita (second from right).
